When you go to the gym:
*Don’t spend all your time on cardio equipment – strength training is essential to toning up your body
*When you are on cardio equipment – don’t use the stabilized handles for support unless it is absolutely necessary – this will only make the action easier.
*Remember – everyday is not the Worlds Strongest Man competition. To have form is better than using overly heavy weights and being at risk to injure yourself.
*Wipe your sweat off the machines – nothings worse than stuck on swass.
*Remove the weights off of bars after you are done – you are there to lift after all.
*Don’t hog the machines -it’s not YOUR gym.
*Before you take a machine – make sure the prior user was completely done using it.
*The gym isn’t a hangout – don’t just go there to mess around on your iphone – do work son. Sure it’s a great place to meet people – but if you just stand around the whole time not doing any work you will just look like a major tool.
*Don’t stare at yourself in the mirror constantly – yes the mirror does help to ensure you are using proper form – but you will look like a jackass when you keep “accidentally” exposing your chiseled abs as you lift your shirt completely up to wipe the sweat off your brow.
*Make sure you warm up and cool down followed by light stretching to aid in reducing soreness.
*There is more to gaining that ideal body size/type than what is at the gym – make sure you are maintaining a proper diet.

So I was reading today – Michael Phelps was cleared by the IOC after he apologized for the bong picture incident BUT now the tough law officials in South Carolina are going to try to prosecute over it.

“Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott told The State newspaper of Columbia, S.C., that he would file charges against Phelps if he determines the swimmer smoked marijuana in the county.”

What a jackass – he is just trying to make a name for himself – get his 15 minutes. Reminds me of the old Monica Lewinsky Scandal… who honestly would save that dress and not even clean in? She got what she wanted in the long run.

In response to the last blog I wrote about Phelps I received this comment via Facebook:

“Jenny the problem is he “says” he’s anti drug… As you said he volunteered to be on the anti team… Our Olympic athletes are by no means perfect but they should represent the best… If he can get away with smoking pot why not have steroids in sports ? The line NEEDS to be drawn somewhere…
Honestly I don’t really care… I do think he’s a douchebag however… Many children look up to him as a role model (as you said) damn the media and their mixed messages !”

My response to this lame argument is:

Well ya see – the difference between pot and steroids is that steroids enhance athletic performance – pot just gives ya the munchies n giggles.

A lot of the countries that compete in the Olympics have legalized marijuana it’s not that big of a deal. Would people in Jamaica frown upon Usain Bolt for smoking? Nope. But in the States – we do because…  Read More the government deems it as illegal.

I am for the legalization all around. From my perspective – if the kid wants to smoke – whatever. If anything smoking could hinder his performance as a swimmer hurting him in the long run. I just think he has gone above and beyond anyone’s expectations in sports and maybe it just happened too fast. He has so much responsibility on his shoulders with the title that he carries I could understand how it would just be overwhelming and I could see how he would just want to break loose for awhile…

He is only 23, people make mistakes – his only mistake was getting his picture taken.

If only people would have listened to Bob Marley:
“Who are you to judge the life I live? I know I’m not perfect and I don’t live to be. But, before you start pointing fingers, make sure your hands are clean.”

So a picture of Michael Phelps smoking out of a bong surfaced and apparently it is a big deal. I guess I just don’t see it.

The man (kid) is 23 – he is living his life – he passed all of the drug tests at the Olympics – that is that. He even voluenteered to be on the anti-doping team or whatever it was called. I see how people could be upset because he is a idol/role model for many. I guess though since I am a liberal especially when it comes to the topic of pot that he is a human just like the rest of us.

He is 23, old enough to make his own decisions. I don’t understand how this could hinder his future with the Olympics. He is not is season – it is not a performance enhancing drug – it’s not really that big of a deal what he does is his own spare time. Marion Jones – this was a terrible hit to the sport of track and field – steroids are a performance enhancing drug, those are a big deal, what happened to her was unfortunate BUT in that instance – it was the right course of action.

I would love to meet the jackass that decided to take this picture in the first place.

It’s ridiculous that we elect the leaders of our country the have a history of drug usage but when one of our finest athletes goes to a party and lets loose – we hit the witch hunt trail.

Phelps Story

I love sports – have since I was a wee lass. Some of the fondest memories of my childhood were family get-togethers at our big pink house on Sundays donning Chicago Bears apparel. Oh the Peyton years, how I miss thee. I guess watching the Super Bowl tonight just rekindled my football memories. I’m a die hard Bears fan – every year once football season starts you will see me weekly in my Urlacher, Briggs, or Hester  jersey. Once Bears season is over – i’m not as devoted to the sport – but tonight’s game blew me out of the water – phenomenal.

Other than football games here and there I will watch the Cubs and Bulls, but i’m more of a contact sport kinda girl.

Unless of course we are talking about my ultimate passion in live… track and field. I threw shot-put and discus for 10 years – 2 in junior high, 4 in high school, and four in college. While in college I also picked up hammer and weight. Went to state twice, division 3 nationals 3 times. Oh when I see meets on TV – those are the good days. Adam Nelson – you blow me away. Discus

I’m also really into lifting and fitness and all that – you kind of get that mindset I think being a collegiate athlete. I’m considering getting my personal training certification sometime soon in hopes that maybe i could find a job in that area.

So that’s about it for sports today kiddos. If you are a female looking into buying some athletic apparel – I would suggest checking out my Bonanzle booth for some awesomely cheap name brand threads…
